Retouching is a big part of a photographer’s workflow.

Whether it’s portraits, commercial work, or weddings. And, as I’ve said countless times, it’s not as simple as adding a filter and calling it a day. Retouching encompasses many things, including colour grading,

skin corrections, fixing flyaway hairs, removing a distracting object from an otherwise gorgeous shot, you name it.

It’s also not a magic fix. As one of my photography instructors once said to our class, “Garbage in, garbage out.” Sometimes you just can’t save a photo,

no matter how hard you try. The better the shot is going into Photoshop or Lightroom—that means correct exposure, good lighting, white balance, sharpness, and so on—the easier it will be to retouch and the better your results will be.
